Kamala Devi Harris: Joins The Presidential Race

Kamala Harris - the "Female Barack Obama" entered the Democratic presidential race on Monday. Her announcement came on the national holiday, honouring Martin Luther King Jr - civil rights movement icon.


She joined four other women, Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, Senator Elizabeth Warren, former housing secretary Julian Castro, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

She was born on October 20, 1964 to Indian immigrant mother Shyamala Gopalan Harris, a known breast cancer specialist. Her father Donald Harris from Jamaica is an economics professor at Stanford University. Her parents were separated

She was married to Douglas Emhoff in 2014, who describes himself on his Twitter account as "a dad, hubby, lawyer, and wannabe golfer."
